Title: Class Underwriter - International Property FAC
Location: London/ Hybrid 
Salary: £130k + 

Job summary
Work with the Division Head, Head of International Property Facultative and the other Property Class Underwriters, in the writing and monitoring of the International Property Direct and Facultative Account, including the development of staff.

The role includes representing Chaucer externally, such as face to face broker meetings and negotiations, client and reinsurer meetings, providing external presentations, as well as weekly attendance at the box in Lloyd’s.  

Underwriting in line with Chaucer’s appetite, including appropriate deployment of capacity, contributing to optimisation of the performance of the portfolio.

As a key Underwriter on the team, you’ll be required to actively contribute to analysis of the portfolio, including optimisation of reinsurance purchased.

Main duties
  • Underwriting in accordance with underwriting authority
  • Actively involved in agreeing and formulating the underwriting strategy
  • Ensuring a full and comprehensive service is provided to brokers
  • Active involvement in the marketing of the team/Division
  • Contributing to the premium growth targets
  • External marketing including presentations to brokers and reinsurers where required
  • Assist in monitoring levels of business written, ensuring they are within the constraints of the syndicate appetite and reinsurance programme
  • Training and development of junior underwriting and modelling staff (where necessary)
  • Travel overseas (as required)
  • Liaising with local offices and various departments within Chaucer
  • Developing use of modelled data for pricing and exposure management
  • Analysis of the portfolio, such as reviewing claims performance, and CAT aggregation usage
  • Any other ad hoc duties as may be required
Regulatory Responsibilities
Comply with all policies and procedures and ensure that due regard is paid to providing good customer outcomes and the fair treatment of customers.
  • Ensure all required annual product review assessments are completed for department in a timely manner
  • Ensure all Chaucer Group Product Governance processes in the UCM are followed
  • Ensure that the principles of providing good customer outcomes and the fair treatment of customers are upheld by Agents and Service Providers.
Skills and Competencies
  • Comprehensive insurance Lloyd's market experience
  • Good grounding in the legal environment.
  • Good level of understanding of global CAT exposure (with the exception of USA)
  • Experienced in Underwriting of heavy and light industrial risks worldwide (with the exception of USA)
  • Confidently negotiate to deliver positive outcomes
  • Effectively uses pricing tools and has a good awareness of market conditions and the potential impacts on pricing
  • Can shape a slip/policy and can challenge a clause or policy wording
  • Organised and able to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
  • Understanding of Actuarial rating process
  • Word and Excel – Intermediate

  • Able to communicate with different levels and is adaptable
  • Resilient and able to work in a pressured environment
