About the role 

The actuarial function for the London insurance operation is split into three teams: Reserving, Catastrophe Risk Management, and Pricing - all under the overall direction of the European Region Chief Actuary. Whilst the actuarial positions within the business are dedicated to these areas, there is a lot of interaction across the three teams. 

The Opportunity 
The role is based in London or Paris and is part of the Actuarial Pricing team working on Accident and Health (A&H), High Net Worth (HNW) and Specialty Personal Lines (SPL).  

 The three lines comprise a significant share of Europe’s business. They are written through a number of marketing channels and across all major European territories. 

 The ideal candidate will have a degree in mathematics or other number oriented degree and will be interested in pursuing an actuarial carrier. Good communication skills as well as sound technical skills are a requirement. Good knowledge of excel and programming language would be desirable. Previous work experience in insurance would be an advantage. 

 Key Accountabilities 
  • Support underwriters across the region in case pricing  
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of pricing models and MI monitoring tools;  
  • Support rating model governance through user testing and documentation. 
  • Requirements 
  • Degree in Mathematics/Actuarial Sciences or relevant field 
  • Demonstrable commitment to and success in attaining an actuarial qualification 
  • Experience in extracting and transforming data for use in actuarial work and MI reports using SQL, R, Python or similar tools 
  • Pricing experience preferably in a consumer product (motor, pet, travel, home, PMI) 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in team environment 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to explain technical issues in non-technical terms 
  • Excellent software/technical skills. Proficiency in Excel and VBA would be an advantage 
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and priorities
